Walk Southeast pits local walkers, towns in summer competition

It’s time to Walk Southeast!!

Join us for the 297-mile virtual trek that takes you from the Sitka Parks & Recreation office all the way to Ketchikan by way of the Alaska Marine Highway. Track the miles you walk, run or hike beginning May 1 and see what Southeast Alaska community you’ll reach by September 1. The further the community, the more chances you have to win great prizes in the ‘local’ drawing. Walk at least 150 miles and be entered to win two round-trip tickets from Alaska Airlines. Participation is FREE.

Walk Southeast is a personal challenge; however, we also pool our miles together for a friendly community challenge between Ketchikan, Wrangell, Petersburg, and Juneau.

Bragging rights (and an awesome Walk Southeast trophy from Alaska Airlines) goes to the community that walks the most (by average miles walked/person). The trophy has moved around from Peterburg to Juneau and then Wrangell took it home last year. Let’s bring it to Sitka for 2024.

We’ve got some great sponsors for the 5th annual Walk Southeast. A huge shout out to Alaska Airlines, Sitka Trail Works, Mean Queen, Backdoor Café, and Russell’s, and the City and Borough of Sitka is contributing a Grand Prize of two nights at Tom Young Cabin. Thank you for sponsoring Walk Southeast 2024.

Please note: Registration is open April 15 to May 6 and walking begins on May 1. The Facebook Event date is the LAST day to register for Walk Southeast. For more details, email recreation@cityofsitka.org.
