Greater Sitka Arts Council to host Spring Art Walk on April 7

The Greater Sitka Arts Council will host its annual Spring Art Walk from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, April 7.

This event will feature art presentations at a variety of local art galleries, businesses, and public buildings.

Here’s a list of the participating galleries and businesses, and their featured artists:

Greater Sitka Arts Council to host Spring Art Walk on April 1

No foolin’, the Greater Sitka Arts Council will host its annual Spring Art Walk from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, April 1.

This event will feature art presentations at a variety of local art galleries, businesses, and public buildings. Walkers can pick up a passport from any of the participating galleries, with the opportunity to win a $100 gift card from a drawing of all the completed passports. Just get your passport stamped at each gallery, and when your passport is full drop it off at the Island Artists Gallery to be entered in the drawing.

Sitka artists are hosting their annual fall Sitka Art Walk from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 27, at several businesses around Sitka. This event takes place on Black Friday, which is a sales tax holiday in Sitka.

Fall Art Walk November 27 2015 Updated List of Artists HandoutNew this year, you could win $100 by participating. Visit each gallery listed in the Fall Art Walk passport (available from each participating venue on the night of the Art Walk). Each participating venue will give you a sticker, stick it under the venue name. Bring full passports with name and contact information to a drop box at Homeport Eatery and be entered in a drawing to win a $100 gift card.

The Greater Sitka Arts Council has announced the participating businesses and artists in its Arti-Gras Gallery Walk from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, March 13, in downtown Sitka.

The gallery walk is part of the eighth annual Arti-Gras Arts and Music Festival, which takes place every March. The gallery walk is an opportunity for Sitkans to view new work from local artists, both emerging and established.

Greater Sitka Arts Council hosts annual Arti-Gras Art Walk on March 14

ArtWalk-Open-House_Banner_1980wThe Greater Sitka Arts Council is teaming up with several local businesses to host the annual Arti-Gras Art Walk from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, March 14, in downtown Sitka and across the O’Connell Bridge at the University of Alaska Southeast Sitka Campus.

The free art walk gives people a chance to see new art work and visit with their neighbors as they celebrate the Seventh Annual Arti-Gras Music and Arts Festival this month.

Enjoy the Arti-Gras Art Walk at these participating businesses:

  • Homeport Eatery, featuring silent auction on six halibut painted by local high school students, on bid to support youth art scholarships.
  • Old Harbor Books, featuring Adam Andis photography
  • University Alaska Southeast Sitka Campus, featuring: Liz Zacher, Robert Rose, Norm Campbell and a special exhibit of Alaska’s Voices of the Wilderness art from the Sitka National Historical Park
  • Unity Botanicals and Backcountry Bodyworks, 327 Seward, next to Highliner Coffee, featuring Libby Stortz, Heather Bauscher, and Kitty Wilson.
  • Fisherman’s Eye Gallery, featuring Jerry Snelling photography, Ashia Lane watercolors, and a special offering of Clint Potter original watercolors. There will be live music by Larry McCrehin and hors d’hoeurves.

Local art galleries, other downtown businesses, to host a Community Art Walk on Monday, Oct. 7

As part of the Alaska Travel Industry Association‘s convention in Sitka next week, several local art galleries and other businesses will host the Community Art Walk from 4:30-9 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, in downtown Sitka.

The Community Art Walk was included in the convention’s program because the theme is “The Fine Art of Tourism.” Participating merchants include Artists Cove Gallery, Baranof Island Artists Gallery, Brenner’s Fine Clothing and Gifts, Fishermen’s Eye Gallery, Homeport Eatery, Old Harbor Books, Raindance Gallery, Seasons Cards and Gifts, Sitka Rose Gallery, Wintersong Soap Company, and more.

“We are hoping that most of the downtown retailers will be open into the evening,” Philip Prupell of the Sitka Convention and Visitors Bureau said. “Sitka should think of this as one of Sitka’s traditional Gallery Walks, but we wanted as many retailers open so we changed the name a little.”

In addition to the Art Gallery Walk, an ATIA convention event of interest to walkers/runners is the ATIA Foundation FUN Run at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the Sitka National Historical Park (note, this event may be impacted by the federal government shutdown). This event is a fundraiser for the ATIA Foundation, which provides tourism industry scholarships.

Take a walk and check out some art during the Artigras gallery walk on March 15

ArtigrasWidebkg2Take a hike around downtown and see plenty of art as the Artigras Sitka Music and Arts Festival hosts a gallery walk on from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, March 15, in Sitka.

This year the Artigras gallery walk features at least 11 downtown galleries and businesses that will stay open later than normal to host shows by local artists and musicians. This walking and art event is one of the many Artigras happenings this month as part of the festival hosted by the Greater Sitka Arts Council.
